Sweat Series Episode X [6 Minute Barre Workout]

Think barre is easy? Then you’re probably not pushing yourself enough, says Tanya Becker—co-founder and creator of uber-popular barre empire Physique 57.
“I’m a big believer—in the studio and in life—in the mantra: ‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you,’” she explains. “And if things aren’t uncomfortable, you’re probably not going to see results or success.”
To an outsider, barre may look like a breeze, but once you’re in on the heart-pumping action in this video—and feel the burn from pulsing—you’ll know it’s not as easy as it looks.
That’s because Becker designed it that way. “The barre workout we’ve created has to evolve to stay interesting and difficult for all levels, no matter how long you’ve been doing it,” she explains. “There’s actually no limit to how far you can push yourself—if you continue to push through the discomfort, you can always get an even better workout than the last time.”
Start with this quick, do-anywhere sequence that targets your thighs, glutes, and obliques. All you need is a sturdy piece of furniture and you are well on your way. (A workout buddy is optional but always fun—Becker is joined here by Physique 57’s Shannon Smith.)
