Whether it’s a beautiful scenic hike, a morning surf or a yoga class – you’re probably going to be staying pretty active this summer, so it’s important to have a few go-to hairstyles that can keep up with you. With the active woman in mind, I put together 5 easy hairstyles and threw in a few classics with a fresh twist! They are sure to keep your sporty mane tame before, during or after your summer workouts.

This is one of the favorite new ‘dos of summer! It puts a fashionable spin on your sporty look, allowing you to take on whatever rendezvous pops up after your workout.

Best hair length: Shoulder length

Best activity: Mid to low intensity workouts- Hiking, Barre classes, beginning yoga classes, paddle boarding

Start by sectioning out the top one third of your hair allowing some hair to fall in front of your ears. Use an elastic band and start to secure the top ponytail. On the last twist of the elastic band, pull the ponytail partially through. Using the hair that was partially pulled through the ponytail, take a small chunk and wrap it around the elastic band to hide it. Pin in place. Play with the short pieces of partially pulled through hair so they are slightly off to the side. Spray if desired.

If you’re looking for a solid hairstyle, this is it! It’s got everything you need- a cute factor, a sporty factor and all your hair up and out of the way. You’ll be looking very pin-worthy before, during and after any workout.

Best Hair Length: Shoulder length, Mid, Long

Best Activity: Low, mid, high intensity workouts- Yoga, swimming, running, hiking, gym, tennis, travel, studio classes

Part your hair all the way down the middle of your head. Secure one side out of the way with a clip or elastic band. French braid the free side all the way down and secure with an elastic band. Follow the same steps on the other side. For shoulder length hair, take one braided tail and tuck it under the base of the French braid on the opposite side. Pin in place. Repeat the steps for the other side. Secure it tightly by using multiple pins. For long hair, you can take the braided tail and wrap it around the head creating a halo. Pin securely in place. Spray if desired.

The best part of this look is the feminine vibe it puts out yet holds so well during many summer activities. Perfect for the Athleta woman who wants something simple and elegant.

Best Hair Length: Should length, Mid, Long

Best Activity: Low, mid intensity workout- Hiking, studio classes, paddle boarding, gym training

Part your hair down the middle. Pull it back into a low ponytail. Secure with an elastic band. Above the elastic band, separate the hair creating a small hole. Flip the ponytail through. Tighten slightly. Continue to flip the hair through the opening, creating a roll effect. Pin in place. Spray if desired. For a more messy summer look, slightly loosen the hair by giving it a little pull away from where it is secured. You can even pull some hairs out to frame your face.

Best Activity: Low, mid, high intensity workouts- Hiking, running, studio classes, tennis, gym, spin, golf, paddle boarding

Pull all your hair up into a high ponytail. Using a fine-tooth comb or brush, smooth out hair. Secure with an elastic band. Take a small chuck of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic band to hide it. Pin in place. Spray if desired.

This is a cool take on the classic stacked ponytail that will keep your hair in check while you hit the gym hard!

Best Hair Length: Shoulder length, Mid, Long

Best Activity: High intensity workouts- Spinning, running, tennis, circuits, volleyball

Start by sectioning out the top third of your hair, secure with an elastic band. Repeat two more times until you have three vertically stacked ponytails. Above the elastic band, separate the hair creating a small hole. Flip the ponytail through and tighten. The tail of the ponies should be fed through the small hole directly below it. Repeat the process for the next two ponytails. Depending on your hair length and thickness, you can add or subtract the amount of ponytails to start with. If you want to take the look a step further, you can pin or secure (with an elastic band) the remaining ponytail, into a bun at the base of you head. Spray if desired.
