Getting up-close & personal with mom-to-be KATY MILLER – DMM of Direct Merchandising

Around the office, Katy is known as “the fit one.” The belly bump is no obstacle for her – she still diligently attends her favorite Soul Cycle sweat-fests, taking baby along for the ride. With a mind as razor-sharp as her fitness, her unsung skill is mellowing the mood during meetings with her infectious dry wit. Our DMM of Direct Merchandising for 3 years running, Katy has two girls, ages 5 and 7, with a third on the way.

What was your fitness like before you were pregnant?

Trail running, hands-down. 4-5 days a week I’d be out running. I also do Soul Cycle and bootcamp, just to mix it up. I can’t wait to get back to running and snowboarding with my kids after the baby arrives!

Give us a day-in-the-life – what does your current workout look like now?

Before work and before the kids get up I do cardio in the morning followed by a circuit of arm weights, squats and lunges. I still go to Soul Cycle for that group energy!

What music gets you pumped up to work out?

I generally like the quiet, but if I listen to music, I prefer something mellow since life in general is already pretty hectic. I once did a marathon-distance training run with the Adele album on repeat.

How has becoming a mom changed your life?

When I get home from work and my girls run up to me with the biggest smiles and hugs, I remember what’s important in life. Celebrating accomplishments with them, watching them learn new things, cheering them on in soccer, seeing the world through their eyes… all of it gives me joy in my very hectic life. For me, family comes first. It’s not really a choice. It just is and that’s the way I like it.

My mom, for sure. Being a mom definitely helps you appreciate how hard it is being a mom!

Have any advice for fellow moms-to-be out there?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. And don’t put too much pressure on yourself. We moms are our own worst critics. Try to remember that you’re doing your best – which likely is amazing. Also, stick together and root for each other. We’re all in this together so we should enjoy the ride!

MATERNITY METRO LEGGING. The Metro is my hands-down favorite. I prefer the low-waist panel. It’s just beyond flattering and stays put. It’s like an alternative to jeans but way more comfy!

THE SHANTI TANK. I love this tank because it’s nice and long. It’s super cute and perfect for layering.

THE BREATHE TANK. It’s so soft because it’s seamless and doesn’t chafe.

THE SURREY SWEATER. Who doesn’t love cashmere? Plus, it’s super long, which I love for covering my backside.
