Gym to Street Style Transitions
Alright y’all, the new year is in full swing. Can you believe February is only 2 days away? That’s crazy. Weren’t we just celebrating Christmas like last week? Anyway, with the new year comes New Year’s Resolutions, and for many of us getting fit is on that list of goals for 2014. Those of you who have been reading TFND for a while know this is a constant struggle for me. I do really well until things go bonkers at work, which I can count on at least twice a year around the time of my job’s semi-annual conference. The combination of long work days and travel gets me every time! As I’m looking through pictures from the last month or so, I’m noticing that my cheeks are looking a little extra chipmunky, which is a sure-fire sign that it’s time to get busy!
With that said, the Athleta Fit Style Meets Street Style Challenge is right on time! I did a post with Athleta last year about fitting fitness into your busy life, and one of the things I mentioned really helps is investing in super cute, quality clothes for the gym. When your gym clothes are just as cute as your street clothes, you won’t mind throwing them on to run all your errands before or after the gym. Well, for this challenge we’re taking things a bit further, and showing you how to really style your gym clothes for the street! Armed with a gift card, I headed down to the Athleta store at Atlantic Station and got to stylin…
I started out with Retreat Chaturanga Tights and a Back to Basics Seamless Tank for my fit style look. These tights are perfect for transitioning from fit style to street style. The neutral color way and print really gives them the look of a great pair of leggings. And, okay…I’ll admit that I don’t usually advocate wearing leggings as pants, but workout gear gets a pass if it helps you get to the gym! Lol.
For my street style look, I took my hair down and layered on the French Terry Sharkbite Top in light coral. I really loved the coral with the brown! I swapped out my Nikes for a pair of burgundy combat boots, and voila! I had a look that was still sporty, but totally fit for running errands or even grabbing lunch with friends. (And, if you have SUPER casual office environment like mine…you could even wear this look to work…I mean we can wear shorts and flip flops, so gym clothes are totally acceptable…especially, when they’re this cute!)
And finally, just to show how truly versatile the Retreat Chaturanga Tights are, I did one bonus street style look. I threw on a cozy sweater from my own closet and topped it with my leather moto vest, then I finished off the look with a pair of flat suede boots. This look is a little less sporty than the first street style look, and really shows off how the tights really do double as leggings.
