I’ve always had a difficult time sticking to a workout routine at an actual gym. I get bored on the treadmill quickly and some of the weight machines are a little intimidating. Add a crowd to the mix and I’m pretty much just wandering around the abs-and-dumbbells area, busting out dance moves when I think no one’s looking. Thanks Rihanna.

I take my workouts outside whenever possible. Here’s one example routine, plus a few tips for motivating yourself to workout in the first place!

  • 20 squats
  • 30 lunges
  • 40 toe touches
  • 50 second wall sit
  • 100 jumping jacks

Finding the motivation (or time) to workout is not always easy (I’ve definitely made my fair share of excuses), but it is always worth it. Just think about how great you feel after a run or even a 3o minute walk. It’s liberating! Here are a few tips to motivate yourself to break out the sneaks:

1. Wear workout clothes that makes you look and feel good!

New workout gear always gets me excited to hit the trail. When I shop for workout clothes I look for three things: 1) comfort 2) performance — is it stink proof? 3) functionality. This Athleta jacket is super soft and stretchy, and it has a rear pocket to store all of my stuff!

2. Bring a buddy.

The buddy system is the way to go! Working out with a friend will help you stay motivated. Besides holding each other accountable, you can also partner for different exercises that you normally wouldn’t be able to do alone. It’s also a great time to catch up!

3. Create an upbeat playlist.

If there’s no music, there’s no working out for this girl. I have a few different playlists on Rdio that I rotate through based on my mood / workout routine. Right now, I’m loving the new Kid Ink album.
